Docusign CLM, can anyone please explain how CLM works, from configuring variables to using them in workflows & how they can be accessed in Templates?

DocuSign CLM (formerly SpringCM) is a cloud-based contract lifecycle management platform that enables companies to automate, streamline, and manage their contract processes. In CLM, variables are used to store and manage data from Salesforce or other external systems. These variables can then be used in workflows and document templates to streamline the contract process.

Here are the steps to configure variables and use them in workflows and templates:

  1. Create a variable in CLM:

a. Log in to the CLM platform and navigate to the "Variables" tab. b. Click "Add Variable" to create a new variable. c. Name the variable and select the data type (e.g., text, date, picklist, etc.). d. Set the source of the variable data, which can be Salesforce or another external system. e. Save the variable.

  1. Configure workflows in CLM:

a. Navigate to the "Workflow" tab and click "Create Workflow." b. Define the workflow steps, which can include document generation, document review, and approval processes. c. In the workflow step, where the variable is needed, select "Add Param" and choose the appropriate variable from the list. d. Save the workflow.

  1. Create a document template in CLM:

a. Navigate to the "Documents" tab and click "Create Document." b. Select the document type (e.g., Word, PDF, etc.) and upload the file. c. Insert merge fields into the document where variable data should be populated. d. Save the document.

  1. Create a document package in CLM:

a. Navigate to the "Packages" tab and click "Create Package." b. Select the documents and the workflow that should be used for the package. c. Start the workflow.

  1. Populate the document template with variable data:

a. Once the workflow is started, the document template is populated with variable data when the user clicks on the "Generate Document" button. b. The document is then reviewed, approved, and executed according to the workflow steps.

Forms and Forms Library are used to collect information from users and store that information in variables. These forms can be used in workflows to automate the process of collecting data and populating documents. The Forms Library contains pre-built forms that can be used in CLM workflows or customized to meet specific business needs.
